HBO Max officially confirms Harley Quinn season 3’s July release window, officially bringing the show back just shy of a two-year hiatus.
After two long years of waiting, HBO Max has confirmed Harley Quinn season 3 will release this July. The animated superhero comedy was originally developed by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey for DC Universe, where it would air its first two seasons. With the plan to launch DC Universe as a new streaming platform underperforming, WarnerMedia would renew Harley Quinn for season 3 with plans to move it to HBO Max along with Titans, Doom Patrol, Young Justice and Stargirl, the latter of which would continue at The CW.
Harley Quinn centers on the eponymous criminal as she finally elects to leave the Joker and strives to establish her own criminal empire in Gotham City in competition with her abusive ex and the Injustice League. Kaley Cuoco leads the cast as Harley alongside Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, Alan Tudyk as multiple characters, including the Joker, Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho, Ron Funches as King Shark, Jason Alexander as Sy Borgman, J.B. Smoove as Frank the Plant, Diedrich Bader as Batman and Christopher Meloni as Jim Gordon. Harley Quinn has scored rave reviews from critics and audiences alike in its first two seasons and now audiences have exciting news for the long-awaited season 3.
On the heels of revealing a summer release window for the series’ return, WarnerMedia has offered a more specific release plan for Harley Quinn season 3. Though an exact date has yet to be announced, Harley Quinn season 3 will officially premiere on HBO Max in July. The DC animated series is one of multiple titles set for an undated July release alongside a new Nikki Glaser stand-up comedy special and Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal season 2.
News of the Harley Quinn season 3 July release window comes just weeks after HBO Max released the first image from the new season of Harley and Ivy enjoying a beach vacation and announcing a general summer release window. Recent months have also seen multiple additions to the cast, including Werewolves Within stars Sam Richardson in an undisclosed role and Harvey Guillén as Nightwing, as well as The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn playing a fictionalized version of himself. Harley Quinn co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker has also offered a number of exciting teases of what audiences can expect from season 3, including an episode paying homage to Batman: The Animated Series, from which Harley first originated, as well as plans for a Kite Man spinoff show.
Anticipation for Harley Quinn‘s return has been high since the show’s emotional season 2 finale, which saw Ivy and Harley finally professing their love for one another and race away from Jim Gordon and the Gotham City Police Department, who are finally trying to take back the city from its criminal overlords. With a July release window now confirmed for Harley Quinn season 3, fans of the series should also look forward to an official trailer for the show dropping sometime in the near future with an official release date included. In the meantime, audiences can catch up with the first two acclaimed seasons of Harley Quinn streaming on HBO Max now.
