A fan video features the Kill Bill music being played during the one-on-one battle scene between Luke and Kylo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
A Reddit user posted a video of a scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi and perfectly combines it with the score from Kill Bill. The Last Jedi was released in December 2017 to negative fan reactions. However, it was still a box office hit, grossing over $1.3 billion, which was the highest grossing film of that year. The film saw an older Luke Skywalker resistant to fight in the war against the First Order, led by his nephew Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. It took a different direction than its predecessor, even killing off Snoke from The Force Awakens, who was supposed to be the villain for the entire trilogy.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 is a classic film that was released in 2003, followed by Vol. 2 which was released the following year. While intended to be one film, it was decided that the footage would be split into two during post-production. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the martial arts films follow Uma Thurman’s character, a former assassin known as The Bride, who has it out for the assassins who tried to kill her and her unborn child. The films feature various styles of music composed by Ennio Morricone.
Reddit user u/PopeOwned has released a video which features the Kill Bill music being played during the one-on-one battle between Luke and Kylo in Last Jedi. The beginning of the video contains onlookers from both sides, including Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac. Adam Driver and Mark Hamill’s lines from the film are still featured, with the Star Wars score being cut and replaced. Check it out below:
The scene is so iconic that another parody was made in 2020, in which Skywalker decapitated Kylo Ren. However, this parody contained no beheading and was only a change in score. The scene was being built up from the start of the movie, as Skywalker wanted to have no involvement in the war but ultimately engaged in the fight. It was revealed later that the beloved character was not actually present in this battle but used the force to make it seem as if he were there and stall the First Order.
It is great to see passionate film fans creating this type of content. Last Jedi and Kill Bill are two very different films, so it is certainly intriguing to see the two combined. The eighth Star Wars film has been described as misunderstood by the fan base, so it is also encouraging to see that this film is still relevant and receiving some love four years later. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was seen as the force that polarized the fan base, as evidenced by the lower-than-hoped box office returns of Solo and The Rise of Skywalker. Despite the negativity surrounding the film, though, this Star Wars: The Last Jedi scene pairs surprisingly well with the Kill Bill score.
